Biography
Arieh Lieb "Arik" Einstein, (1939-2013) was an Israeli singer, actor and screenwriter, a pioneer of Israeli rock music, he has been called "the voice of Israel".
Arieh was born on January 3, 1939 and grew up in Tel Aviv where he became an Israeli youth high jump and shot put champion and also played basketball for Hapoel Tel Aviv B.C. He auditioned and was accepted into the army's music group 'Nahal Brigade', which has historically paved the way for many of Israel's most talented and successful musicians. There he stood out with his unique voice and was chosen to perform a few solo songs, including "Ruach Stav" ("Autumn Wind").
In 1959 he joined the group Batzal Yarok (Green Onion) and collaborated with the theater Sambation. In 1960 he released his first solo album and sang in a band under the pseudonym "Ari Goren". In 1964 he acted in the comedy Sallah Shabbati.
In 1966 he became a member of "The High Windows" with whom he experienced great commercial success. After a few concerts in Europe, Einstein left the band and started a solo career. In the course of 50 years he recorded more than 500 songs and participated in 34 albums, catalysing the Israeli music of his time. He remains to this day one of the most popular artists in Israel.
He died of a thoracic aortic aneurysm on November 26, 2013.
