Humans are evolving and from 1,600,000 years ago they are called homo erectus as the fossils from that period point to a distinct and well documented next stage in human evolution, both for their skeletal elements and their way of living. They had a brain volume of 750-1250cc, show less racial segregation than the previous species (men and women had more common features), had fewer hair on body, started to dress with furs, used caves and open-air places near the banks of rivers and lakes for protection and temporary inhabitance; also their tools are more sophisticated, their technique is called Achelaia. Homo Erectus was tall and muscular and the use of his hand to build tools, sharpened his mind and his abilities. His great achievement was the use of fire, initially as a means of protection, later for cooking. Photo
Erectus was the first to leave Africa. When in a region the fruits, nuts or hunting ended, they picked up their few belongings and moved to another area. If they met on their way another group of people and the means were limited, they would fight for them; the defeated would be eaten and the winner will stay in the area. If there was plenty of food, the two groups would come into contact and co-operation for team hunting and coordinated defense against wild beasts. When a group grew big, it was divided; usually the younger will leave seeking for their own space. In this way, in hundreds of thousands of years, they established Europe and Asia, initially following the Nile. Several species in different parts of Eurasia, such as Homo georgicus, Homo ergaster, Homo pekinensis, Homo heidelbergensis, are characterized as Homo erectus subspecies.

Homo erectus lived for about 1,200,000 years and is by far the longest species; it is very difficult if not impossible, for other human species to reach such time scales.
