He was born as Valentin Louis Georges Eugène Marcel Proust on July 10, 1871, in Auteuil, France, into a wealthy bourgeois family, his father, Adrien Proust, was a physician. Marcel grew up in an intellectually stimulating environment and was exposed to art, literature, and music from a young age. However, he was a sickly child and often confined to his bedroom due to asthma. During his university years, Proust immersed himself in the Parisian literary and intellectual circles, befriending influential figures such as poet Stéphane Mallarmé and writer Anatole France. In the 1890s, Proust began publishing his literary works and contributed to various literary magazines. He initially gained recognition as a critic and essayist before turning his focus to fiction writing. Proust's most significant and enduring work, "In Search of Lost Time," was published in seven volumes between 1913 and 1927. It is a deeply introspective and autobiographical novel that explores themes of memory, time, love, art, and social class. Proust's health continued to deteriorate throughout his life.
