Hamad bu Shihab

Take me a few years back

Take me a few years back
And I will recall those evil times
Years of rancor inflamed by ignorance,
At such variance with true Islamic values or tradition
Proximity in one beloved homeland could not weld us together.
Nor blood relationships
One man setting a trap for a kinsman,
With no good reason
Another trying to spread discord by tale-bearing
And the desert full of devilish robbers.
The world was unaware of our existence
Days rolled on, whilst we behave not as God-fearing men,
Everyone dancing to his own tune!”

[...]

Yesterday these Emirates were torn apart
In them destructive men created havoc.
And today we are enjoying security and stability
Forcing envious people to admire us.
Yesterday these were disunited emirates
Suffering ignorance, poverty, illness and chronic disease,
And today the Lord has bestowed upon us his grace
In uncountable abundance.
Yesterday, few people knew of our name
And today our voice reaches all corners of the Earth.
Oh! What a difference between our yesterday and today.
